On a Sunday night in late April of 2018, 18-year-old Jaiden Garcia, a Hispanic male, was nearing the end of his time at C.O. Bastian High School and looking forward to a new chapter in his life. Hoping to make a new friend, he went with two other people to a party at a trailer park in North Las Vegas. The evening took a tragic turn just before 11 p.m.
when an argument broke out at the gathering on East Tonopah Avenue.
Amid the escalating tensions, the last words Garcia reportedly heard were, "Where are you from?" Gunfire erupted, and he was struck by multiple bullets. North Las Vegas police and medical responders arrived at the scene to find Garcia with critical injuries. He was later pronounced dead, and the Clark County coroner's office officially ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to two suspects: 19-year-old Fernando Corales and 27-year-old Hugo Lopez. Police determined that both men had opened fire during the argument at the party. Corales and Lopez were arrested and booked into the Las Vegas Detention Center. Corales faced a charge of murder with a deadly weapon, while Lopez was accused of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
