In a quiet North Las Vegas neighborhood near Lone Mountain Road and Decatur Boulevard, the life of 66-year-old Diane Meri Bauer came to a tragic end on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Police were called to her home in the late afternoon, around 4:40 p.m., to a grim scene. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Diane and her 69-year-old husband, Elmer Bauer. A firearm was found near them.

The Clark County coroner's office would later confirm the devastating details of the incident. Diane's death was ruled a homicide, a result of a gunshot wound to her head. Her husband, Elmer, also died from a gunshot wound to the head, but his death was determined to be a suicide. The North Las Vegas Police Department investigated the case and concluded that it was a murder-suicide.

The investigation determined that Elmer Bauer was the person responsible for Diane's death before he took his own life. As a result, no other suspects were identified or sought in connection with this case, and no arrests were made. The incident marked the 12th homicide investigated by the North Las Vegas police in the year 2020, leaving behind a somber story of domestic tragedy.
