On the night of July 4, 2021, a Fourth of July party in North Las Vegas turned tragic, resulting in the death of 22-year-old Aljavonn Williams, a Black male. The celebration, held in the 1200 block of West Helen Avenue, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue, was shattered by gunfire at approximately 11:14 p.m. Williams was one of nine individuals shot during the incident.
First responders arrived at the chaotic scene to find one person with non-life-threatening gunshot
wounds. Shortly thereafter, University Medical Center alerted police that they were treating multiple victims from the shooting. Another victim was also reported at Dignity Health of North Las Vegas. Williams was transported to University Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that his death was a homicide caused by gunshot wounds.
Another man, 21-year-old Maurice Clinkscale Jr., also died as a result of the shooting. In the days following the incident, North Las Vegas police continued their investigation, working to determine the motive behind the gunfire and to identify who was responsible. It remained unclear to investigators if there was more than one shooter involved in the deadly assault.
As of early July 2025, authorities had not released any information regarding potential suspects or made any arrests in connection with the killings of Aljavonn Williams and Maurice Clinkscale Jr. The investigation into the incident that claimed two young lives and injured seven others was still ongoing, with detectives pursuing all available leads. Police have encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
