On a Tuesday evening in Las Vegas, a dispute that began over a place in line at a convenience store tragically escalated, ending the life of 49-year-old Patrick Eugene ONeal, a Black/African American male. The incident occurred on November 9, 2021, at a Speedee Mart located at 2980 E. Tropicana Ave. ONeal was fatally shot and later died from a gunshot wound to the torso at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
The conflict started when a woman, later identified as 22-year-old Daijenai
Levi, cut in front of ONeal in the checkout line. An argument ensued between the two. Although Levi initially apologized, the verbal altercation continued. At one point, she reportedly told a clerk that ONeal "didn't want to mess with her or she would get her husband." The argument spilled outside the store, where ONeal threw a drink at Levi.
Shortly after, a man approached with a firearm and chased ONeal back into the entrance of the convenience store, where he shot him. The shooter was later identified as 21-year-old Isaiah Levi, Daijenai's husband. Following the shooting, Daijenai Levi was seen on video surveillance retrieving a shell casing from the scene. The couple was identified after police canvassed a nearby apartment complex.
Warrants for the arrest of Isaiah and Daijenai Levi were issued four days after the killing. In February of the following year, the couple was apprehended in Bell County, Texas. They were both charged with murder, conspiracy, and burglary. Daijenai Levi was extradited back to Las Vegas and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on February 27, 2022, while Isaiah Levi remained in custody in Texas for a period before his extradition.
