On the late evening of October 28, 2022, a dispute that began over a small sum of money for a marijuana transaction tragically escalated, ending the life of 38-year-old Victor Iniguez Lopez in Las Vegas. The Hispanic male was fatally shot outside a residence on Valley Forge Avenue, marking a violent end to a conflict that had been brewing throughout the day.
Iniguez Lopez was rushed to University Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The disagreement stemmed from a friend of Iniguez Lopez giving money to a woman to purchase marijuana for him. When the woman allegedly failed to provide the drugs, Iniguez Lopez became involved. Believing the woman was taking advantage of his friend, he reportedly made threatening phone calls to her earlier in the day. Later that evening, he went to her home to confront her, accompanied by his friend. The woman’s brother was present at the residence, and a physical altercation broke out between him and Iniguez Lopez.
As the fight was ensuing, the woman's other brother, 18-year-old Yobani Fierro, arrived at the scene in an SUV. According to police reports, Fierro fired several shots at both Iniguez Lopez and the vehicle he had arrived in, which was occupied by at least two other individuals. Iniguez Lopez was struck by the gunfire, and Fierro fled the area. His sister later told investigators that she had informed Fierro and her other brother about the threatening calls but had not asked Fierro to come to her home.
Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department, Yobani Fierro was identified as the suspect in the shooting. He was arrested on November 8, 2022, by a task force led by the FBI. Fierro was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and faced multiple charges, including murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, two counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon, and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
