On the morning of February 25, 2020, a domestic dispute in a Las Vegas apartment tragically ended the life of 46-year-old Richard Perry, a Black/African American male. The incident unfolded at the Broadstone Flamingo West apartment complex located at 9100 W. Flamingo Road.
According to police reports, the conflict began with a verbal argument between Richard and his younger brother, 44-year-old Eric Perry, over the use of a television.
Their mother, who was in her bedroom preparing for work, overheard the disagreement escalate. She told authorities she then heard a distinct "pop" sound. When she came out of her room to investigate, she discovered her son Richard lying in the hallway with a gunshot wound to his chest.
In a state of distress, their mother immediately called 911 at approximately 9:37 a.m. and informed the dispatcher that one of her sons had shot the other. Emergency services arrived at the scene to find Richard Perry gravely injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Clark County coroner's office later confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest and ruled it a homicide.
Following an investigation into the shooting, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested Eric Perry later that same day. He was subsequently charged with one count of open murder in connection with his brother's death. During the investigation, police found a. 22-caliber shell casing at the scene that matched casings found in Eric Perry's dresser. While Eric Perry denied shooting his brother, and their mother later attempted to retract her initial statement to the 911 dispatcher, the evidence led to his arrest. Court records indicated that the brothers had a history of a difficult relationship, although it had reportedly improved after Eric's recent release from prison for a prior conviction. Eric Perry was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and held without bail pending his court appearances.
