Louis Tikas, a 28-year-old Greek man, met his end on April 20, 1914, a day that would become infamous as the Ludlow Massacre. Born Elias Anastasios Spantidakis in Crete, Greece, he had emerged as a key organizer for the United Mine Workers of America, leading a community of roughly 1,200 striking coal miners and their families living in a tent colony in Ludlow, Colorado.
