George Weinberger, 58, male, white, spent the afternoon of June 7, 1974 at his downtown Denver shop, Royale Custom Tailor & Furs, on the 1400 block of Welton Street. When his wife returned, she found him lying unresponsive on the floor and called for help. Officers arrived to discover Weinberger deceased inside the store, the quiet routine of a workday broken by sudden violence.
Detectives determined that Weinberger had been shot to death during what appeared to be a robbery attempt.
The cash register and shop surroundings pointed to a crime motivated by quick gain rather than personal grievance, but the clues did not lead to a definitive trail. In the days and years that followed, no arrests were made, and investigators were unable to identify a suspect or suspects linked to the killing.
