On a November evening in 1980, a simple stop for gasoline turned into a fatal encounter for Robert L. Jackson, a 50-year-old Black male. Jackson was at a Vickers gas station located at 3490 Colorado Boulevard when an argument erupted with an unidentified man. The verbal dispute quickly escalated to violence.
The unknown male retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and shot Jackson. In the aftermath of the gunshot, the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle, leaving Jackson grievously wounded. Emergency services were called, and Jackson was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, his injuries proved to be too severe.
Four days after the shooting, on November 18, 1980, Robert L. Jackson succumbed to his injuries and died. The Denver Police Department opened an investigation into his death, which has since become a cold case. To this day, the suspect responsible for Jackson's murder has not been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Investigators continue to seek information from the public that might lead to a resolution and bring justice for Robert L. Jackson and his family.
