On a tragic day in Colorado Springs, 22-year-old Sandra Ann Howard, a female, lost her life in a senseless act of violence. On May 17, 1986, a shooting spree unfolded, leaving a trail of devastation at two separate locations and claiming the lives of five innocent people.
The violent rampage began at the Grand View Lounge, where a bartender and two customers were fatally shot during a robbery.
Following the horrific events at the bar, the perpetrator set the establishment ablaze in an apparent attempt to conceal the crimes. The violence, however, did not end there.
The perpetrator then proceeded to a nearby Kwik-Way convenience store. Inside the store, Sandra Ann Howard and her 19-year-old sister, Elaine Marie Sindeldecker, were also tragically shot and killed. The community was left in shock and mourning as the news of the five murders spread.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Gilbert Eugenio Archibeque. His image was captured by a surveillance camera at the convenience store, which led to a swift identification after a neighbor recognized him. When police located Archibeque at his apartment the following day and instructed him to surrender, he instead took his own life. The case was brought to a close with the death of the sole suspect, leaving a community to grapple with the immense loss of life.
