Julie Ann Tureson, a 33-year-old female, was found deceased in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on April 22, 2016. Her body was discovered inside her minivan which was parked in a storage unit on East Platte Avenue, a discovery made after her family filed a missing person report. An investigation determined that she had been shot to death and her death was ruled a homicide.
The investigation into Julie’s death quickly focused on her 38-year-old ex-boyfriend, James Woo.
The couple had been in a relationship for a few years, but it was a turbulent one with a history of domestic violence calls to the police. They had reportedly broken up just a week before her murder. Authorities believe the killing was premeditated. It is suspected that Woo placed her body in the minivan and drove it to the storage unit he had rented two weeks prior.
Following the discovery of Julie's body, law enforcement tracked James Woo to Denver, where he boarded a flight to Seattle. From there, he was preparing to depart on a flight to Hong Kong in an apparent attempt to flee the country. However, Homeland Security officers arrested him on the plane just an hour before it was scheduled to depart. Woo, a resident of San Francisco, was subsequently booked on a charge of first-degree murder. During their investigation, police discovered that Woo was a prolific user of online dating applications, such as Tinder, and was in contact with several other women in both the San Francisco and Denver areas. Investigators sought to speak with these women to gather more information about Woo's background and character.
