A night of celebration turned into a tragedy in west Phoenix on April 5, 2014, when 25-year-old Marcus Hernandez, a Hispanic male, was fatally shot. The evening was marked by two neighboring house parties in the 5400 block of West Palm Lane. At some point, an altercation erupted between attendees of the two separate gatherings, escalating a festive atmosphere into one of violence and chaos.
