Mauricio B. Baires, a 20-year-old white male, was killed by gunfire in Aurora, Colorado, on April 5, 2003. That day, Aurora police officers were dispatched to 12085 East Colfax Avenue after reports of shots fired rang out along the busy corridor. When they arrived, witnesses told them that two vehicles had been involved in the confrontation and had already sped away from the scene, leaving behind only the echo of the gunshots and scattered fragments of what had just happened.
