In the early morning hours of January 24, 2004, a young life was tragically cut short in Colorado Springs. Dequincy Janeah King, a 19-year-old Black male, had recently moved to the city from Mississippi with hopes of finding a job to support his wife and stepchildren. The night of January 23, 2004, found King at Papasan's Sports Bar, which was hosting an after-hours party. Feeling tired, he decided to go out to a car in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex to get some rest.
