Joshua 'Josh' Jerome Delaney, a 22-year-old Black male, was discovered in his white Jeep Cherokee, which had crashed into a wooden fence in the 4500 block of London Lane. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Joshua, who was engaged to be married and the father of a young daughter, was just days shy of his 23rd birthday.
The investigation into Joshua's death revealed that prior to the shooting, he had been at the Platinum 25 nightclub. It is believed that an altercation may have occurred at the club before he left. Witnesses later reported seeing Joshua's Jeep parked alongside a smaller, dark-colored car on London Lane shortly before the shooting, suggesting that the shooter may have been in that second vehicle. The police were dispatched to the scene at 12:42 AM following a report of a shooting in the vicinity of London Lane and Chelton Road.
A suspect, Carlos Ford-Vigil, was eventually arrested in connection with Joshua Delaney's murder. However, the path to justice took a frustrating turn for Joshua's family when the murder charges against Ford-Vigil were dropped. The decision was made after a key witness reportedly fled the state and then refused to testify. Though law enforcement expressed their belief in the suspect's guilt, the district attorney's office felt they could not prove the case, in part because witnesses were deemed unreliable.
