In the summer of 2014, a quiet, dead-end road in southwest Fort Collins became the scene of a tragic event that claimed the life of 26-year-old Brandon Kapperman. The incident, which unfolded on Thompson Drive, also involved his 73-year-old grandfather, Gene Kapperman.
Authorities were called to the elder Kapperman's home after a woman reported that her husband had shot a family member before turning the gun on himself.
Upon arrival, police found both Brandon and his grandfather deceased. The Larimer County Coroner's office later confirmed the identities of the two men.
The investigation into the deaths determined the incident to be a murder-suicide. It is believed that Gene Kapperman shot his grandson, Brandon, before taking his own life. As the sole suspect in the shooting was also deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the case. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the exact cause and manner of death for both men.
