In the early morning hours of July 31, 2015, the vibrant pulse of a hip-hop night at McDonough's Irish Pub in Aurora, Colorado, gave way to the sharp, terrifying sound of gunfire. When the chaos subsided, 28-year-old Arthur Potts, a Black male, was found grievously wounded, having been shot in the chest. Alongside him, two women had also been struck by bullets, one in the leg and the other in the shoulder. Emergency services rushed to the scene at 10395 E.
Iliff Avenue, and Potts was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation that followed revealed that the shooting was not an isolated act of violence but a triple shooting that left a community shaken. The Arapahoe County coroner later confirmed that Arthur Potts' death was a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the chest. It was also noted that Potts was armed with a. 40 caliber semi-automatic pistol at the time of the incident. The Aurora Police Department began an intensive search for those responsible, turning their attention to a vehicle of interest, described only as an SUV.
In the days and weeks that followed, the search for answers continued, but no suspects were publicly identified. The case eventually grew cold, leaving the family and friends of Arthur Potts without closure. A reward of up to $2,000 was offered for any information that could lead to an arrest, a plea for help from a community still grappling with the senseless violence that claimed a young man's life. The case remains an open homicide investigation, a painful reminder of a life cut short.
