In the crisp morning air of December 22, 2015, a tragedy unfolded in Aurora, Colorado, that would forever alter the lives of one family. Jevon Antwaine Bailey, a 23-year-old male, was shot and killed while driving his blue Volkswagen Jetta. Friends described him as a big, cuddly teddy bear who wouldn't harm a fly, making the violent nature of his death all the more shocking to his loved ones.
On that Tuesday morning, what began as a drive with a friend descended into a fatal encounter.
It is believed that a road rage incident may have precipitated the shooting. Bailey was being followed by a white four-door sedan. At the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and East Warren Drive, the sedan pulled alongside Bailey's vehicle. A brief verbal exchange took place before Bailey drove into the intersection. It was at this moment that shots were fired from the other car, one of which struck Bailey. After being shot, his car collided with another vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle in the crash was not injured. The suspect was described as a Black male driving a white sedan. In the immediate aftermath and in the years that followed, Jevon Bailey's family has continued to seek answers and justice. They organized a peaceful walk on what would have been his 24th birthday to raise awareness and plead for anyone with information to come forward. Despite their efforts and a reward offered by Metro Denver Crime Stoppers, the case has grown cold, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Jevon Antwaine Bailey. His mother, Clarissa Bailey, has expressed the emotional turmoil of not knowing who is responsible for her son's death.
