In the late hours of August 5, 2003, the sense of quiet in an Aurora neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When police arrived at a residence at 11205 East 14th Avenue, they discovered a grim scene. Inside, 41-year-old Eliseo Cano-Pacheco, a white male, and a woman named Consuelo Hernandez Serrano had both been shot. A lone gunman had reportedly approached their home and fired numerous rounds directly through the front door, striking both individuals within.
Emergency
services transported both Eliseo and Consuelo to a nearby hospital, but their injuries proved to be fatal, and both later died. The investigation into the double homicide suggested a chilling possibility. On the same night she was killed, Consuelo Hernandez Serrano had been on the phone with her mother in Mexico and confided in her a deep fear, stating she believed family members were going to kill her. This conversation pointed investigators toward the theory of a family feud in which Consuelo may have been caught in the middle.
