In the evening hours of May 14, 2025, a burst of gunfire shattered the ordinary atmosphere of a bustling shopping center parking lot in Aurora, Colorado, leaving a community in shock and a family grieving an irreversible loss. James Michael Young, a 43-year-old Black / African American male, was fatally wounded in the incident, his life tragically cut short amidst the chaos. When police responded to the scene at 1155 S. Havana Street shortly after 8:30 p.m., they discovered a grim tableau.
Young was found in the parking lot and pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that evening was not confined to a single victim. A second man, aged 36, was also found with life-threatening gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. As the investigation began to unfold, authorities learned of a third victim, a 46-year-old woman, who had been seriously injured in the same shooting and had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle. Investigators quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence but stemmed from an altercation that had escalated with deadly consequences. It is believed that at least one of the victims was acquainted with the individuals responsible for the shooting.
In the days that followed the tragic event, the Aurora Police Department's Major Crimes Homicide Unit worked tirelessly to identify those responsible for James Michael Young's death and the injuries to the other two victims. Their investigation led them to identify two suspects: 24-year-old Hee Dah Weh and 23-year-old Latrayvon Dashen Bullard, both residents of Aurora. Arrest warrants for first-degree murder were issued for both men.
The pursuit of justice for James Michael Young and the other victims culminated on May 20, 2025. Acting on information, officers conducted a traffic stop near East Dartmouth Avenue and Parker Road. Inside the vehicle were both Hee Dah Weh and Latrayvon Dashen Bullard. The two suspects were taken into custody without incident, bringing a significant development in a case that had deeply affected the Aurora community. The investigation continued as detectives processed evidence and witness statements to build their case against the accused.
