In the quiet Montbello neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, the life of Gervais Spencer, a 45-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short on the evening of September 12, 2016. Known to his loved ones as 'Monty,' Spencer was a man working to rebuild his life, finding a passion for cooking with dreams of one day opening his own restaurant. He was a father to two sons and a grandfather.
On that Monday, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Denver Police Department officers were dispatched to a
residence at 5521 N. Xanadu Street following a call of an unknown nature. Upon their arrival, they discovered Gervais Spencer inside the home, deceased. It was determined that he had been shot multiple times in what was ruled a homicide. Investigators believe the shooting occurred sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 8:40 p.m.
At the time of his death, Spencer was residing in a transitional home managed by the Colorado Department of Corrections, along with seven other parolees. His wife expressed her belief that someone within the residence must have witnessed the events that led to her husband's death. Despite appeals to the public for information and a reward offered through Crime Stoppers, the case remains unsolved.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Gervais Spencer, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Denver Police Department continues to seek information from anyone who might have knowledge of the circumstances surrounding his death, leaving a family to mourn and a community with unanswered questions about the violent end to a life that held promises of a new beginning.
