A tragic and senseless turn of events on November 6, 2016, in Grand Junction, Colorado, claimed the lives of 25-year-old Shandie Case and her unborn son. The young woman, who was six months pregnant, suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head during a roadside confrontation.
The incident unfolded after Case and her husband, 28-year-old Alexander Fedak, were involved in a dispute over a truck. While in their vehicle, they were pursued by another car. When a man emerged from the other vehicle holding a rifle, Fedak, who was in the driver's seat, allegedly attempted to flee. In the process, he fired a weapon, striking Case who was seated next to him. Investigators later determined that the man with the rifle never discharged his own weapon.
Following the incident, Alexander Fedak was arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection with his wife's death. The loss of the vibrant young woman and her unborn child, who she reportedly considered naming Killean, devastated her family and community. She was remembered as a business owner with a big heart and a contagious joy for life.
