In the early morning hours of April 12, 2017, the life of 25-year-old Alton Joseph Kelly was tragically cut short in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Responding to a call around 3 a.m., police discovered Kelly's body lying on the ground outside a home in the 800 block of East Vermijo Avenue. He had been fatally shot.
Alton, a longtime resident of Colorado Springs, was a doting father to two young girls.
He had graduated from Harrison High School, where he played football, and had begun pursuing a degree in business management at Colorado State University at Pueblo. Remembered for his vibrant, loving, and goofy personality, he was known as someone who always looked out for everyone.
The investigation into his death led to the arrest of DeAndre Vonte Smith. In February 2018, a jury found Smith guilty of first-degree murder for his role in the fatal shooting of Alton Kelly.
