In the quiet city of Pueblo, Colorado, the life of 54-year-old Danny Thomas Jones was abruptly cut short on the evening of May 25, 2017. Jones, a male resident of Pueblo, was found deceased in the front yard of a home on the north side of the city, the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident unfolded around 6:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Constitution Road, marking the first homicide in Pueblo for that year.
Initial calls to the police reported a shooting, and upon their arrival,
officers discovered Jones's body. The tragic event was not a random act of violence; an altercation between Jones and another individual preceded the deadly shots. The Pueblo Police Department's Crimes Against Persons detectives quickly launched an investigation into the homicide.
The investigation led to the identification of a suspect, Shane Dix, who was 36 years old at the time. An arrest warrant for second-degree murder was issued for Dix, and authorities began a search for him. He was considered armed and dangerous, and the public was cautioned against approaching him. Less than a week after the shooting, on May 31, 2017, Dix was apprehended by a Pueblo police K-9 officer in the 1700 block of East Eighth Street and was taken into custody without incident.
Shane Dix was formally charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Danny Jones. In November 2017, Dix pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. He was subsequently sentenced to serve 12 years in prison for his role in the death of Danny Jones.
