On December 31, 2017, Deputy Sheriff Zackari Spurlock Parrish III, a 29-year-old officer with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, was fatally shot while responding to a disturbance call at the Copper Canyon Apartment Homes in Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
