In the early hours of a late February morning in 2018, the life of 37-year-old Tania Analili Arbaiza Sosa, a Hispanic female, came to a tragic and violent end in her Denver, Colorado home. Police were dispatched to her residence on South Grove Street around 3 a.m. following a report of a break-in. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Both Tania and her 18-year-old ex-boyfriend, Kevin Torres, were found deceased, each having suffered from gunshot wounds.
The investigation
that followed painted a dark picture of a troubled relationship that had recently ended. The Denver Medical Examiner's Office officially ruled Tania's death a homicide and Torres's a suicide. Investigators concluded that Torres had forced his way into her home, fatally shot her, and then turned the gun on himself in a tragic murder-suicide. This conclusion meant that the sole suspect in Tania's murder was also deceased, bringing the official investigation to a close.
In the days leading up to the fatal encounter, both Tania and Torres had made posts on social media that hinted at the turmoil between them. Torres shared a message about having to give up on people who don't care, followed by a final, ominous post featuring illustrations of the grim reaper. He had a tattoo of a grim reaper on his chest. For her part, Tania had shared a post that spoke of the pain that comes from having a good heart and trusting too much, accompanied by an image of a person being stabbed in the back. Both originally from El Salvador, their lives ended together in an act of violence that left family and friends to mourn their loss.
