In the late autumn of 2018, the life of 26-year-old Jaylon Morgan was tragically cut short in a downtown Colorado Springs parking garage. On the first of November, Morgan sustained a fatal gunshot wound inside the structure located on North Cascade Avenue. The incident prompted an immediate investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department, who soon had a significant break in the case.
Not long after the shooting, a 27-year-old man named Timothy Key turned himself in to authorities
at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. Key was subsequently arrested and faced a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Morgan's death. While an arrest was made, the circumstances and motive that led to the fatal encounter in the parking garage were not made public by investigators in the immediate aftermath.
Jaylon, a graduate of Pueblo South High School's class of 2012, was working as an electrician apprentice at the time of his death. Remembered as an ambitious and positive individual, he was known for his loving and gentle nature towards his family and his many close friends, whom he considered brothers. He was a source of inspiration to many, often sharing his belief that nothing worthwhile comes without effort.
