In the early morning hours of March 26, 2023, Braden Robert Peltier, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A Specialist in the United States Army stationed at Fort Carson, Peltier was originally from Bay City, Michigan. The incident occurred at approximately 3:44 AM in the 2700 block of Palmer Park Boulevard, where police responded to several 911 calls reporting shots fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds.
Both were transported to local hospitals, where Peltier succumbed to his injuries.
Braden Peltier was an artillery soldier who had enlisted in November 2020. His family described him as a funny and loving man who was passionate about the outdoors, enjoying activities like hunting, fishing, and camping. He was married and the father of a young son. His wife recalled that joining the army was a lifelong goal for him and that he was excited to serve his country.
The El Paso County Coroner's Office completed an autopsy and officially identified Peltier as the victim. His death is being investigated as a homicide by the Colorado Springs Police Department's Homicide Unit. In the weeks following the shooting, law enforcement had not identified any suspects and no arrests had been made. The investigation was described as active and ongoing, with police appealing to the public for any information regarding the shooting.
