In the early morning hours of November 4, 2020, a burst of violence shattered the pre-dawn stillness in a Denver neighborhood. Eric Macias, a 34-year-old male, was caught in a triple shooting that ultimately claimed his life and that of another man.
The incident unfolded in the 3200 block of Locust Street. Denver police were called to the scene near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Monaco Parkway shortly after 2 a.m., initially responding to what appeared to be a double shooting.
Two individuals were found with injuries and rushed to the hospital for medical attention. A few hours later, a third victim was discovered and also transported for treatment.
Eric Macias was one of the initial victims found at the scene and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The second victim who succumbed to his injuries was identified as 30-year-old William O'Keefe. The third person involved in the shooting survived but was left in critical condition.
In the wake of the deadly shooting, the Denver Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the tragic events that led to the deaths of Macias and O'Keefe. As of the days following the incident, authorities had not released any information regarding a potential suspect or suspects, and no arrests had been made in connection with the case. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remained under active investigation as the community mourned the loss of two of its members.
