In the early hours of a September morning in Pueblo, Colorado, a life was tragically cut short, leaving a void in the community. Eric Angelo Trujillo, a 36-year-old male, was the victim of a fatal shooting on September 27, 2021. The incident unfolded near the intersection of Bradford and East Third Street, where the violence of the act shattered the quiet of the neighborhood. An artist and a lover of the outdoors, Trujillo was known for his passions for biking, fishing, and working on cars.
His sudden death left behind a grieving family, including his children, Dalena and Nevaeh.
The investigation into Trujillo's death was handled by the Pueblo Police Department. Their efforts to bring justice for Eric Trujillo led them to a suspect, Nicholas Tumblin. Just days after the shooting, on October 1, 2021, Tumblin was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in New Mexico on a no-bond warrant connected to the homicide. Ultimately, Nicholas Tumblin pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of Eric Trujillo. He received a six-year sentence for this crime. This sentence, however, was to be served concurrently with a much longer 70-year sentence Tumblin received for the separate 2021 kidnapping and murder of another individual, Raymond Ray Jr. The resolution of the case brought a measure of closure to the family and friends of Eric Trujillo, though the pain of his loss remains.
