In the East Colfax neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, the life of 17-year-old Jasmine Rivas-Hernandez was tragically cut short on March 26, 2022. The young woman, a female with her whole life ahead of her, was discovered deceased in an alley located in the 1500 block of North Quebec Street. An investigation swiftly determined that her death was a homicide resulting from gunshot wounds.
Her family, engulfed in grief, remembered her as a kind and caring person who was eagerly anticipating her 18th birthday in the upcoming June. They described her as a young woman just beginning to figure out her path in life, making her sudden and violent death all the more devastating.
The investigation into Jasmine's murder led Denver police to three suspects: Robert Adam Solano, Joseph Thomas Chavez, and Shiloh Fresquez. In January 2023, authorities announced their arrests in connection with the case. Solano faced a charge of first-degree murder. Chavez was charged with accessory to a crime of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. Fresquez faced charges of first-degree murder and attempting to influence a public servant. At the time of their arrests, both Solano and Chavez were already in custody for unrelated matters.
The legal proceedings that followed brought a measure of resolution for Jasmine's loved ones. In June 2023, Shiloh Fresquez, then 22, pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to influence a public servant and received a sentence of five years in community corrections. In November of the same year, Joseph Chavez, then 27, pleaded guilty to one count of accessory to a crime and was sentenced to four years in prison. The final suspect, Robert Solano, entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder on March 24, 2025. As a result of his plea, a first-degree murder charge and an abuse of a corpse charge were dismissed, and he was immediately sentenced to 30 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections. Solano was already serving a 46-year sentence for a separate homicide that occurred in Lakewood in July 2022.
