On April 24, 2022, the body of 46-year-old male, Fred Joseph Giron, was discovered on Little Burnt Mill Road, just south of Starlite Drive, in an area just outside the Pueblo city limits. Initially, the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office launched a suspicious death investigation, urging the public for any information regarding Giron's whereabouts in the days leading up to the discovery of his body.
Investigators quickly determined that Giron's death was a homicide.
The investigation led them to identify a 17-year-old male as the suspect in what was determined to be a fatal shooting. The authorities actively sought the teenage suspect in connection with Giron's death, turning the case into a search for a suspected killer.
The case took a significant turn when the 17-year-old suspect was found deceased in the city of Pueblo on May 2, 2022, just days after Giron's body was located. The death of the juvenile suspect was subsequently ruled a double homicide, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation. With the primary suspect in Fred Giron's murder also dead, the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office announced in March 2023 that they had closed the homicide case. Detectives definitively connected Giron's death to the juvenile, but with the suspect deceased, the case could not proceed further.
