In the late hours of a Tuesday evening in Pueblo, Colorado, the life of Whitney Nicole Chavez, a 34-year-old Hispanic mother of five, was tragically cut short. On August 30, 2022, while visiting a friend's house, she stepped outside at approximately 9:30 p.m. into the 900 block of East 7th Street and never returned inside. In an act of sudden violence, Chavez was shot and died from her wounds at the scene, leaving a family and community to grapple with the unanswered questions surrounding her
death.
In the immediate aftermath, the Pueblo Police Department launched a homicide investigation. Officers who arrived at the scene discovered Chavez suffering from gunshot wounds. The investigation led police to seek public assistance in identifying a vehicle of interest seen leaving the area after the shooting. The vehicle was described as a red or maroon SUV, possibly resembling a Ford Explorer, Ford Expedition, or Lincoln Navigator. Despite this lead, authorities have not yet determined what, if any, involvement the vehicle or its occupants had in the incident.
