In the quiet, rural outskirts of Pueblo County, Colorado, a compassionate 73-year-old woman named Patti Frances Magby, who was a beloved mother, grandmother, and retired educator, met a sudden and violent end. On the evening of October 21, 2022, she was found shot outside a residence in the 4700 block of Bergemann Road.
Deputies from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene following a report of possible shots fired.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Magby with gunshot wounds. Despite their immediate life-saving efforts, which were continued by medical personnel, she was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation that followed determined that her death was a homicide.
Investigators learned that on the night of the incident, Magby, who lived nearby, had gone to the residence of 35-year-old Max E. Struck for reasons that remain unknown. It was there that Struck fired a weapon, and the unarmed Magby was killed.
Following a thorough investigation by the Pueblo County Sheriff's Special Investigation's Unit, an arrest warrant was issued for Max E. Struck. He was subsequently arrested without incident and booked into the Pueblo County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Patti Magby.
