On February 19, 2024, 38-year-old Melvin "Gizmo" Johnson was fatally shot in the face along the 1000 block of Carver Street in Florence, South Carolina. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy was scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina.
