On August 4, 2017, 31-year-old Ashley Sena was found deceased in a hotel room in Roswell, New Mexico. Her life was cut short when she sustained a single gunshot wound to the face. The discovery was made by staff at the Comfort Suites in the 3600 block of North Main Street, who entered the room that afternoon. Investigators from the Roswell Police Department quickly confirmed that her death was a homicide.
The investigation into Ashley's murder led authorities to her boyfriend,
35-year-old Jeremy Hawkins of Roswell. Believed to have shot Sena during an argument, an arrest warrant was issued for Hawkins on August 18, 2017. He faced an open count of murder, along with charges of tampering with evidence, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of intimidation of a witness. Investigators believe that after the shooting, Hawkins disposed of the firearm used in the incident and threatened two individuals connected to the case. On August 19, U.S. Marshals apprehended Hawkins in Albuquerque.
A second individual, Frank Moss, aged 29, was also implicated in the case. An arrest warrant was issued for Moss on August 21, charging him with tampering with evidence, intimidation of a witness, and being a felon in possession of a handgun. Moss allegedly went to the hotel room after the shooting, but before Sena's body was discovered, to collect Hawkins' belongings and return them to him. It is also believed that Moss, who had a prior felony conviction, threatened a potential witness while in possession of a gun.
