In May of 2020, a young life was tragically cut short in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On the evening of May 2nd, 15-year-old Angelique Anderson was with a group of individuals who had arranged to be involved in a physical altercation. The confrontation took place near Hawthorne Elementary School and escalated into a shootout between two vehicles. During the exchange of gunfire, Angelique was struck in the face and killed.
Following the shooting, Angelique's body was reportedly moved from the initial location and left on the road near the intersection of Altis and Domingo Northeast. The incident stemmed from a planned fight between two girls, which drew in other individuals, including then 20-year-old Isaiah Elijah Anthony Hayes. According to reports, Hayes was in the same vehicle as Angelique and became involved in a physical altercation with a man in another car. After the initial fight, both men retrieved firearms and began shooting at each other's vehicles.
Isaiah Hayes was identified as a suspect in the events leading to Angelique's death and was subsequently charged with child abuse resulting in death, kidnapping, and four counts of bribery or intimidation. However, before he could be apprehended, Hayes fled and remained a fugitive for five years. Law enforcement agencies, including the Albuquerque Police Department, actively sought his whereabouts.
After years of searching, Isaiah Hayes was finally located and arrested in June of 2025 in Rhode Island. Authorities there reportedly encountered Hayes while he was experiencing a mental health crisis and discovered the outstanding warrant for his arrest in connection with Angelique Anderson's murder. Following his capture, arrangements were made to extradite him back to New Mexico to face the charges against him. The arrest brought a sense of relief to Angelique's family, who had endured years of uncertainty, though they acknowledged the difficult legal process that still lay ahead.
