On August 29, 2024, at approximately 6:45 PM, Albuquerque police officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1000 block of Valencia Drive SE. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Barbara Sophronia Chavez with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
