On August 8, 2020, 16-year-old Donnie 'DJ' Brandon was fatally shot at Sandia Vista Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The incident occurred during an attempted firearm purchase that escalated into a robbery and subsequent shooting.

Investigations led to the identification and arrest of four individuals connected to Brandon's death: Adrian Avila, JaJuan Bennett, Luis Ayala, and Armando Rodriguez. Avila, implicated in both Brandon's murder and a separate 2021 homicide, was initially release ...
