In September 2022, the life of a promising 20-year-old female art student, Emilia Rueda, was tragically cut short in what police suspect was a murder-suicide. A student at New Mexico State University, Rueda was found deceased in her Las Cruces apartment on the 1400 block of Alamo Drive on September 19, 2022. Alongside her was her 19-year-old boyfriend, Carlos Esparza, who was also deceased. Both Rueda and Esparza were originally from El Paso, Texas.
