On the cold evening of January 8, 2008, in the city of Brockton, Massachusetts, a confrontation outside a liquor store turned fatal for 24-year-old Adilson Pires. That night, Pires, a male, entered the store with two companions. Inside, Shane Bester was making a purchase. Pires approached Bester and asked to speak with him outside, assuring him there would be no trouble. Bester agreed and went outside to wait.
