On August 14, 2023, 37-year-old Ikea Welsh was fatally shot in Southwest Philadelphia. The incident occurred just after 5 p.m. on the 6200 block of Glenmore Avenue, near her residence. Welsh, a mother of five boys aged 10 to 18, was returning home from her job as a home health aide, accompanied by her 15-year-old son. As they neared their home, gunfire erupted, striking both Welsh and her son. A 27-year-old woman, identified as a friend of Welsh, was also injured in the shooting.
