In the early morning hours of August 27, 2016, tragedy struck in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. Jeffrey Kelly, a 28-year-old male, was fatally shot outside a 7-Eleven convenience store located at the intersection of Centre Street and South Huntington Avenue. At approximately 3:33 a.m., police responded to a call for a person shot and found Kelly suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Some reports indicated that Kelly was a well-known local figure who used a wheelchair.
The investigation into Kelly's death moved forward over the following months. In December of that year, the Boston Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested 28-year-old Amos Carrasquillo of Dorchester. He was subsequently indicted by a Suffolk County Grand Jury on charges of first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. Prosecutors alleged that the fatal shooting was the culmination of previous threats and a physical attack by Carrasquillo against Kelly. The slaying was also a violation of Carrasquillo's parole from a prior federal conviction, which included a condition that he stay out of Jamaica Plain.
The case saw further developments in February 2017, when two more individuals were charged in connection with Jeffrey Kelly's murder. Boston Police announced the arrests of a man from Quincy and a woman from Revere, who also faced murder charges for their alleged roles in the death of Kelly. The apprehension of these three suspects brought some measure of progress in a case that had left a community searching for answers.
