On a Friday night in Lynn, Massachusetts, the life of Donald Yancy, a 38-year-old White male, was tragically cut short. On October 28, 2016, at approximately 10:15 p.m., police responded to a call at a Breed Square apartment. Inside, they discovered Yancy with a fatal gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene. A lifelong resident of Lynn, he was known by the nickname "Double Dee" and remembered for his smile and his knack for telling a funny story.
The investigation
into the homicide quickly pointed to a suspect. The Essex County District Attorney's Office issued an arrest warrant for Sean Chandler, a 29-year-old man from Gloucester. Authorities stated that Chandler and Yancy were well known to each other. Witnesses reported that the two men had been involved in an argument immediately before the shooting occurred. Law enforcement considered Chandler to be armed and dangerous and sought the public's help in locating him.
The search for the suspect concluded a few days later. On the Tuesday night following the shooting, a collaborative effort by Lynn Police, State Police, and the Essex County District Attorney's office led them to an apartment on Eastern Avenue in Lynn. There, Sean Chandler was arrested without incident. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a 9mm handgun.
Following his capture, Chandler faced the judicial system. He was arraigned in Lynn District Court on charges of murder as well as several firearm-related offenses. A judge ordered him to be held without bail. Chandler pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
