On a tragic afternoon in Lynn, Massachusetts, on August 23, 2022, Mohamed Sharifi, a 66-year-old male, lost his life in a devastating series of events that also claimed the lives of two other family members. The violence that unfolded that day was not the result of a random act, but a deeply personal tragedy that authorities would later describe as a triple murder-suicide.
The Essex District Attorney's Office identified Sharifi's 31-year-old daughter, Khosay Sharifi, as the person
responsible for the deaths. On that Tuesday, she shot her father and her 34-year-old brother-in-law, Sanjar Halin, at a residence on Rockaway Street. Following these fatal shootings, she located her brother-in-law's father, Abdul Halin, who was 56, and shot him in his car on Laighton Street.
After carrying out these acts, Khosay Sharifi drove to a nearby Stop & Shop on Washington Street, where she died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive behind the horrific events appeared to be rooted in long-standing family turmoil. In a Facebook post made on the day of the killings, Khosay Sharifi alleged that her sister had been the victim of years of abuse by her husband, Sanjar Halin. She claimed that both her father and her brother-in-law's father were aware of the abuse but failed to intervene.
The investigation concluded that Khosay Sharifi acted alone, and with her death, the case was closed without any arrests. The tragic event left the local community in shock and sparked conversations about domestic violence and mental health. A statement from the Sharifi family touched upon these issues, suggesting that mental health and abuse were at the heart of the tragedy that took four lives.
