In the early hours of October 5, 2018, Raymond Holloway-Creighton, a 26-year-old Black male, was working one of his three jobs, delivering food for DoorDash and Grubhub on his scooter in Boston. A new father and husband, he was diligently providing for his family, who were living in the Netherlands at the time. His life was tragically cut short in an act of senseless violence that morning.
While on his scooter at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Chesterton Street around 3:30
AM, Holloway-Creighton was targeted by individuals who were out looking for scooters to steal. One of these individuals, Tyler Sales, pulled up behind him and fatally shot him once in the back. The motive for this cold-blooded act was the desire to steal his scooter. Holloway-Creighton was a man with no criminal record, described by his mother as a "good boy" who was doing the right thing for his family.
The investigation into the murder of Raymond Holloway-Creighton led to the arrest of Tyler Sales. In March 2022, Sales, then 26, pleaded guilty to charges of voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm, and armed assault with intent to rob. He was sentenced to a minimum of 23 years and a maximum of 25 years in state prison. During the sentencing, Holloway-Creighton's wife and mother gave powerful impact statements, remembering him as a hardworking man and questioning the senselessness of his death.
