On the evening of November 12, 2018, a 27-year-old man named Patrick Sequeira Ferreira was fatally shot on Keith Avenue in Brockton, Massachusetts. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Emergency responders found Sequeira-Ferreira with gunshot wounds and transported him to Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was later flown to Boston Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of Patrick Sequeira Ferreira led authorities to
21-year-old Kian Willis. Detectives discovered that Willis was the last person to have phone contact with Sequeira-Ferreira on the night of the murder. Investigators learned that the two men knew each other through the Office of Community Corrections, where Willis was an employee and Sequeira-Ferreira was a client. On November 28, 2018, just over two weeks after the shooting, State Police detectives and Brockton Police arrested Willis in connection with the murder.
During the legal proceedings, prosecutors presented a motive behind the killing. They asserted that Willis shot Sequeira-Ferreira to prevent their gay relationship from becoming public. Willis was reportedly concerned about his family finding out and feared losing his job, as relationships between employees and clients were forbidden. According to the prosecution, Willis had sent text messages luring Sequeira-Ferreira outside on the night of the shooting. On May 6, 2022, after an eight-day trial, a jury found Kian Willis guilty of murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.
