In the early hours of July 5, 2023, a large outdoor gathering in Brockton, Massachusetts, turned tragic, leaving one man dead and two women injured. Thomas Andrade Jr., a 31-year-old male, was shot and killed during the incident. The shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. in the vicinity of Tremont and Essex streets, where a party with over 100 people was taking place.
The gathering was reportedly lively, with alcohol consumption and the setting off of numerous fireworks.
Brockton Police responded to 911 calls and a Shotspotter activation reporting multiple people shot. Upon arrival, they discovered a chaotic scene with at least six vehicles struck by gunfire and a significant amount of ballistic and firework evidence. Mr. Andrade and two women were found with gunshot wounds. All three victims were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, where Mr. Andrade was pronounced dead at 2:42 a.m. The two female victims sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The investigation into the death of Thomas Andrade Jr. was immediately launched, with Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office assisting the Brockton Police. Investigators began conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. Authorities stated that the shooting did not appear to be a random act of violence. As of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects had been publicly identified. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
