On a summer evening in Springfield, Massachusetts, events tragically unfolded that would cut short the life of Rashad Taylor, a 41-year-old Black / African American man. On Sunday, June 26, 2022, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Springfield Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the area of the 100 block of Genesee Street. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Taylor suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Baystate Medical Center for emergency treatment, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Rashad Taylor, born in Springfield on January 22, 1981, was known as a respectful, kind, and humble man who was a proud father and a loving son, brother, and uncle. He was a graduate of the MCDI high school program and had worked as a PCA for Stavros and as an assistant manager for a local detailer. His death was a profound loss to his family and the community where he had spent his life, leaving them disheartened by the violent act that took him from them.
The investigation into the homicide was conducted by the Springfield Police Department's Homicide Unit and the Hampden District Attorney's Office's Murder Unit. This investigation led to the identification of two suspects. In September 2022, two Springfield men, Armando Rodriguez and Angel Rivera, were indicted in connection with Rashad Taylor's murder. Following their arraignment on charges related to his death, both men were ordered to be held without bail pending their pre-trial hearing.
