In the early morning hours of July 19, 2022, the life of Jarmahl Sutson, a 38-year-old Black / African American male from Lynn, Massachusetts, was brought to a tragic and violent end. Responding to a call for a medical emergency at an apartment on Central Avenue in Everett at approximately 4:22 a.m., police discovered Sutson unresponsive in a bedroom, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent investigation into Sutson's death quickly pointed to a suspect with a personal connection to the apartment. Investigators determined that Brian Green, a 35-year-old from Saugus, had previously resided in the apartment with his estranged wife, who was still living there at the time of the shooting. It was revealed that Sutson had been staying at the apartment and was in a relationship with Green's estranged wife. Authorities believe that in the pre-dawn hours, Green used a key to enter the apartment, went to the bedroom where Sutson and the woman were sleeping, and fatally shot Sutson.
An arrest in the case came on August 10, 2022, when Brian Green was taken into custody in Reading without incident. He was subsequently charged with murder and armed burglary. During Green's arraignment, prosecutors detailed a history of domestic violence and restraining orders against him, suggesting a pattern of behavior when relationships ended. Evidence presented against Green included surveillance video and cell phone data that placed him at the scene of the crime. He entered a plea of not guilty and was ordered to be held without bail. The families of both Sutson and Green were reportedly acquainted with each other, having both grown up in Lynn.
